Yes, we take your dog’s safety very seriously. Our custom-built Dog Trotter, USA dog treadmills (called slat mills) are self-propelled, which means your dog stays in complete control. The enclosed space includes gentle walls and safety tethers, and every session is carefully supervised by a trained handler.

Because everything happens in a calm, controlled environment, there is no risk of unexpected encounters with other dogs and a far lower chance of exposure to illness. The low-impact design is also easier on your dog’s joints, and there is no need to worry about recall or leash manners.

Will my dog understand right away?

Most dogs need a little time to get comfortable. It is very normal for them to take 3–4 sessions to walk naturally on the treadmill. Some dogs may need more time, up to 15 sessions or so. And that is perfectly okay. We move slowly and patiently with every dog.

Yes, in time. Once your dog feels safe and confident, many naturally begin to run and sprint. Dogs with high energy and strong confidence often reach this stage sooner, but we never rush the process. Every dog moves at their own gentle pace.

No, you do not have to be home for every session. We are happy to come and run your dog while you are at work or busy. It is helpful if you can be present for the first couple of sessions to see how your dog is doing, but it is not required.

Please do not feed your dog for at least one hour before the session. This helps reduce the risk of bloat. We will use small treats to help your dog feel comfortable with the van and treadmill at first. Once your dog is moving, we use plenty of verbal praise, gentle encouragement, and toys.

It is best to let your dog cool down quietly for about 30 minutes before offering water. Drinking large amounts right after exercise can increase the risk of bloat, especially for deep-chested breeds. Once their breathing has calmed, offer small amounts of water.

We recommend using a full-pant muzzle that allows your dog to breathe and pant freely during exercise. This helps them stay cool and comfortable. Our goal is always to help your dog feel relaxed enough that a muzzle may not be needed, but we will support whatever is best for your dog.

We are very mindful of puppies because their bones and joints are still growing. Generally, vigorous workouts are not advised for puppies. However, we can introduce puppies to the treadmill in a very gentle, low-intensity way with short sessions. This helps them become familiar with the equipment as they mature. We always adjust based on the puppy’s age, size, and breed.
